The Bible in Vietnam

Dear Family and Friends,

We hope you have a blessed Thanksgiving celebration! We are planning to have four friends, including Lynee's new manager, come to our house this year.

In spite of some difficult times in our country, there is still much we can be thankful for. No matter what is happening in the world, God's kingdom is still advancing. Here is a prayer request for the people of Vietnam. Below the request is our personal update.

People groups, Vietnam.

Asian Minorities Outreach* asks prayer for "Vietnam's greatest asset, her beautiful people." They write, "In addition to the more than 60 million ethnic Vietnamese, a rich array of more than 50 tribal groups is found scattered throughout the length of the nation." Pray for the more than 80,000 Raglai people. They live in the mountainous areas of four provinces in southern Vietnam. They have Scripture portions and some have believed in Jesus. "Pray the Raglai church would become a missionary church, sending evangelists..."* to others in Asia who have not yet heard the gospel.

Personal Update

The computer conference went quite well. I learned some new things, had some good discussions about my work with several people, and enjoyed seeing most of the remote people I work with face-to-face. We were not able to release our latest European-alphabet fonts, which was disappointing to me. We did have a test version available for those who wanted it. I'm working on some difficult issues related to adding small capital letters (as are often used for the last three letters in "LORD"). Wycliffe's Scripture publishing people have been requesting small caps for years. Their appearance is actually distinct from normal caps, and they interact with many of the other variant letter forms that are already in the font. Adding them has been unexpectedly difficult.

Lynee and her new manager have been rethinking how they provide services to our teacher's serving missionary kids overseas. They are considering how to make the orientation course for these teachers available online. They will both be taking a class on adult learning next week, which may help them do a better job creating the online course.

While I was at the conference, Lynee made great progress fixing up our dining area. The walls are now free of ancient wallpaper and a hole, and they have been freshly textured and painted.
