Ward prayer update - Jan 2019

Dear Friends & Family,

We hope your 2019 is getting off to a great start! We had wonderful travels at Christmas visiting Lynee’s family and mine, but we are glad to be back home and into our work.

On Tuesday (1/22), my team will begin our annual face-to-face meetings for two weeks. This year we mostly are just meeting at our office in Dallas, though we are going away for the first four days to a retreat center. During our second week, two sister departments (for language software development and user training) will start their own two weeks of meetings. On the Thursday and Friday of our second week, all three groups will meet together. Please pray for good interactions and growing relationships between all these groups (over 70 people) and for the strategic and technical decisions that need to be made. I'm scheduled to lead five sessions.

On January 1, the name of my team changed from the Non-Roman Script Initiative (NRSI) to Writing Systems Technology (WSTech). The new name better communicates that the team’s objective is to "provide technological support for all forms of writing used by the world’s living languages." It also fits with the larger group we are a part of -- Language Technology. To facilitate the name change, we created a new introductory page on the web. You might want to check it out: http://software.sil.org/wstech. Our goal for all of this technology is to support the translation of God's Word into every language that needs it and to bless the speakers of those languages in practical ways.

Lynee’s team is starting to work on this coming summer’s teacher orientation. The former director has stepped down, so the co-leaders of her department are figuring out the details. Please pray for wisdom for them and for Lynee as she helps them with this.

In the Love, Joy & Peace of Christ
